On February 26, an exhibition titled ‘Roerich Herald of Beauty. Master, Son of the Master’ opens, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Nikolai Roerich’s Central Asian expedition and the 100th anniversary of Lyudmila Shaposhnikova — founder of the International Roerich Center (Moscow). This is reported by the Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts named after Gapar Aitiev.

According to it, Svyatoslav Roerich — a world-famous artist, scholar, and public figure — in 1989 transferred the invaluable heritage of his parents from India to their homeland and founded the Roerich Museum-Center in Moscow. His trusted person and permanent director of the museum became Lyudmila Shaposhnikova.

Lyudmila Shaposhnikova is a renowned Orientalist scholar, writer, philosopher, traveler, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, honorary Kyrgyz-Russian Slavic University, and permanent general director (1990–2015) of the Roerich Museum.

From 1975-1980, she single-handedly retraced the route of Roerich’s Central Asian expedition (excluding China). The result of this unique journey was the publication of the photo album ‘From Altai to the Himalayas,’ where Shaposhnikova appears not only as the author of fascinating texts but also as a talented photographer.

In total, Shaposhnikova’s pen includes 35 books and over 500 articles dedicated to the creative activities of the Roerich family and the culture and history of the peoples of India.
