This 10-day Alay Mountains trek in southern Kyrgyzstan takes you about 137 km on foot through the Pamir-Alay: over the Jiptik pass (about 4,170 m) into the Alay valley, up to Camp 1 (4,400 m) below Lenin Peak and on to the summit of Yukhin Peak (5,130 m) – a non-technical five-thousander with a close view of Lenin Peak’s north face. You return over the Sary-Mogol pass (4,300 m), sleeping in yurts with nomad families, in village guesthouses and in tents. For fit, experienced trekkers, July to September, private trip for 1–12 people.

Altitude
The route climbs step by step: three nights between 3,000 and 3,350 m before Camp 1 at 4,400 m. Drink plenty, walk slowly and tell your guide about any symptoms – the summit attempt is only made if you feel well.
Getting to Osh
The tour starts and ends in Osh. Fly Bishkek – Osh (about 1 hour) or fly directly to Osh via Istanbul. On request we add days in Bishkek, Osh or at Issyk-Kul before or after the trek.
What to bring
Broken-in trekking boots, warm layers and a down jacket (frost at Camp 1), waterproof jacket and trousers, hat, gloves, glacier sunglasses and high-SPF sunscreen, trekking poles, headlamp, a 30–35 l daypack, water filter or tablets and personal medicine.
Very fit. You walk 5–27 km a day, cross passes up to 4,300 m and climb to 5,130 m. A previous multi-day trek above 4,000 m is strongly recommended. Pack horses carry the luggage, so you only carry a daypack.
No. The normal route from Camp 1 is a steep walk on scree and rocky ridges – no ropes, crampons or climbing skills are needed in summer. The challenge is the altitude: about 700 m of ascent to 5,130 m.
Three nights between 3,000 and 3,350 m come before Camp 1 (4,400 m), and the summit is climbed from there the next day. Your guide watches for symptoms of altitude sickness; if needed you stay at Camp 1 or descend. Insurance with high-altitude evacuation is required.
Two nights in simple guesthouses in Sary-Mogol, three in yurt camps of nomad families (Darbaza-Tash, Tulpar-Kol, Kosh-Moinok) and four in tents (below the Jiptik pass, twice at Camp 1 and below the Sary-Mogol pass).
This is a private tour, so the price depends on your group size (1–12 people), dates and wishes – the larger the group, the lower the price per person. Send us your dates and we will prepare an offer.
