This 10-day Kyrgyzstan off-road expedition takes you by 4×4 where the asphalt ends. With our own experienced drivers you cross the Tosor pass (3,897 m), drive the empty Ak-Sai plateau to the turquoise lake Kel-Suu near the Chinese border, visit the 15th-century caravanserai Tash-Rabat and reach Song-Kol (3,016 m) from the south. Nights are in yurt camps and village guesthouses, with a free day at Kel-Suu for walking or riding. About 1,525 km, July to September, private for 2–12 travellers.

Season. July to September, when the high passes are usually free of snow and the yurt camps are open. Weather and river levels decide — your guide and drivers may change the order of days.
Border-zone permit. Kel-Suu lies near the Chinese border. Send us a passport copy about 3 weeks before the trip; we arrange the permit.
What to bring. Warm down jacket, hat and gloves, rain jacket, sturdy shoes, sun protection, sleeping bag liner, motion-sickness tablets if you need them, cash in KGS.
Booking. 10–30% deposit by bank transfer or card, the rest on arrival in Bishkek. Want to drive yourself? We also rent 4x4s for self-drive trips — ask us.
About half of the 1,525 km is gravel or dirt track, and some days have river crossings and steep passes. Our drivers do these routes every summer in well-maintained 4x4s. Expect 4–7 hours of driving a day with many stops for photos and walks.
Three or four travellers per 4×4, so everyone has a window seat. A group of 6 travels in two cars, which is also safer on remote tracks.
The highest pass is 3,897 m and the nights at Kel-Suu and Tash-Rabat are at about 3,200–3,400 m. We go up gradually; most travellers only feel a light headache. Tell us about heart or lung problems before booking.
