This 10-day Pamir Highway expedition is a round trip from Osh into the high Pamirs of Tajikistan. You sleep at the foot of Lenin Peak (7,134 m), cross the Kyzyl-Art and Ak-Baital passes (4,655 m) to Karakul lake and Murghab, then drive down the Wakhan valley along the Panj river with Afghanistan on the other bank. Two hikes add the walking: towards Karl Marx Peak above Langar and to Jisev, a village reachable only on foot. About 2,100 km by 4×4, homestays and one yurt camp, mid-June to September.

Season. Mid-June to September. Before and after, the high passes can be closed by snow.
Visa and permit. Tajikistan needs an e-visa with the GBAO permit for the Pamir region; apply about 3–4 weeks before. We send you the instructions after booking.
Altitude. The route climbs fast. Day 1 at Tulpar-Kol (about 3,500 m) is for acclimatisation; drink a lot and tell your guide if you feel unwell.
What to bring. Down jacket, hat and gloves even in July, hiking boots, sun protection, a sleeping bag liner, cash in USD and somoni.
Booking. 10–30% deposit by bank transfer or card, the rest on arrival.
Yes, on our route it is a well-travelled road in summer. We follow the current situation in the Pamirs closely and change or postpone the trip if needed. The Wakhan section runs along the Afghan border; you stay on the Tajik side all the time.
The highest pass is Ak-Baital at 4,655 m; nights are mostly between 2,800 and 3,900 m. We sleep the first night at Tulpar-Kol to acclimatise. Most travellers feel headaches at first; serious problems are rare if you go slowly and drink a lot.
A Tajik e-visa with the GBAO permit (for the Pamir region) and a passport valid for at least 6 months. Kyrgyzstan is visa-free for most EU citizens. We help you with the application.
