During this culinary journey you will not only taste Kyrgyz dishes — you will learn to cook them together with local families. Bake traditional Kyrgyz nan bread, prepare Beshbarmak, make boorsok, pull homemade noodles for Lagman, and cook manty dumplings.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Morning departure from Bishkek toward the scenic Chong-Kemin Valley.

On the way visit Burana Tower, a historic minaret from the 9th–10th century Karakhanid period, once an important Silk Road city.

Arrival in Chong-Kemin and meet a local family.

Lunch with homemade dishes.

In the afternoon you will learn to bake Kyrgyz Nan bread in a traditional clay oven. Together with your hosts you will also prepare Kuurdak, a hearty dish of roasted meat with potatoes and spices.

Dinner with the family.
Overnight in a guesthouse.

Breakfast with the host family.

Morning horseback ride (1–2 hours) through the beautiful landscapes of Chong-Kemin National Park.

After the ride transfer to Tamchy village on the northern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake.

Lunch at a guesthouse.

In the afternoon prepare Boorsok, the famous Kyrgyz fried dough snack.

For dinner you will cook Kulchotai, a traditional dish made with meat, vegetables and homemade pasta.

Drive along the northern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake to Karakol.

Stop in Cholpon-Ata to visit local museums and learn about Issyk-Kul culture.

Lunch at the famous lakeside café “U Rybaka”, known for its fresh fish soup.

Arrival in Karakol and meet your host family.

In the afternoon you will cook Lagman, a Central Asian specialty featuring hand-pulled noodles and rich vegetable-meat soup.

Dinner and tea with the family.

Today’s excursion leads to the famous Altyn-Arashan Valley, one of the most beautiful alpine landscapes in Kyrgyzstan.

Travel part of the way by old Russian UAZ jeep, then continue with a short trek.

Picnic lunch in the mountains.

Relax in the Altyn-Arashan hot springs surrounded by dramatic peaks.

Return to Karakol in the afternoon.

Dinner with a Dungan family, tasting dishes influenced by Chinese Muslim cuisine.

Overnight in guesthouse.

Drive along the southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake.

Visit the scenic Jety-Oguz Gorge, famous for its red rock formations.

Lunch en route.

Arrival in Bokonbay village.

In the evening learn to cook Manty, traditional Central Asian steamed dumplings.

Dinner with a local family.

Morning drive to Kochkor village, known for felt handicrafts and nomadic traditions.

Today’s culinary highlight is cooking Beshbarmak, the Kyrgyz national dish.

Fresh boiled meat is chopped and served with homemade noodles, onion sauce and spices.

Traditionally the dish is eaten with hands — hence the name “five fingers.”

In the morning we drive from Kochkor to Song-Kol Lake, the famous alpine lake known as the nomads’ summer pastureland (jailoo).

The road climbs through mountain passes to reach the high plateau at 3,016 meters, where Kyrgyz shepherd families spend the summer with their herds.

Upon arrival you will visit a traditional yurt camp and meet local nomads. Here you will taste fresh mare’s milk (Kymyz) and a variety of traditional dairy products such as kurut, kaymak and homemade cheese.

Enjoy a picnic lunch by the lake while admiring the vast alpine landscapes and herds of horses grazing across the steppe.

After lunch take a short walk along the lakeshore and experience the peaceful atmosphere of the nomadic highlands.

In the afternoon we drive back to Kochkor village.

Morning transfer to Bishkek.

Visit the lively Osh Bazaar, one of the best places to explore Kyrgyz food culture.

Meet a local chef and participate in a cooking club workshop, exchanging ideas and recipes.

Traditional Kyrgyz cuisine is deeply rooted in nomadic meat culture, where dishes are primarily based on lamb, beef, horse meat and dairy products.

Many of the cooking experiences during the tour involve preparing traditional dishes such as Beshbarmak, Kuurdak, Lagman and Manty, which all contain meat.

Vegetarian options in rural villages are very limited, and adapting the traditional cooking program without meat would significantly change the authentic culinary experience.
