Kyrgyzstan Bets on Quality and Cross-Border Tourism: 62 Projects Selected and a Unified Central Asia Brand is Being Developed

Tazabek – As part of the implementation of the Kyrgyzstan Development Program until 2030, tourism has been identified as one of the four strategic vectors of the country. This was reported by the Director of the Department of Tourism under the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Erdenet Kasymov, in an interview with local media.

According to him, at the beginning of the year, the government planned to support 40 tourism projects, but high interest from the regions allowed the list to be expanded to 62. The Department of Tourism, together with regional administrations, conducted an analysis of facilities and negotiations with investors. Most projects have already been implemented, and the rest are preparing for opening by the end of the year.

‘It is important that each facility contributes to the socio-economic development of the districts, job creation, and growth in tax revenues,’ he emphasized.

Kasymov named the resolution of border issues with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan as one of the key drivers of industry growth, which has given a strong impetus to cross-border tourism.

Tourism development is also facilitated by improvements in transport infrastructure: the construction of the alternative North-South road, the launch of regional airports, and the implementation of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project.

Kyrgyzstan is also working on harmonizing standards with neighboring countries. Together with Kazakhstan, a unified hotel classification system is being developed, and professional standards for guides, housekeepers, and conductors are being synchronized.

According to the department director, the formation of a unified Central Asian tourism brand is one of the key trends for the coming years.

‘We must see each other as partners, not competitors. This opens up great prospects for joint routes and the creation of a single visa zone,’ said Kasymov.
