“Culture” (AKIpress) — As part of the Nooruz celebration in the city of Bishkek, ethnocultural and sports events were held aimed at popularizing national traditions, the cultural heritage of the Kyrgyz people, and an active lifestyle.
As reported by the Bishkek mayor’s office, the main goal of the event was to create an open ethnocultural space where residents and guests of the capital could familiarize themselves with national games, crafts, gastronomy, and the tourist potential of Kyrgyzstan.
The central venue of the holiday was Ala-Too Square, where an ethnocultural zone was deployed with the installation of national yurts, each representing a separate thematic direction.
In the sports zone, demonstration performances in national sports, including toguz korgool and chess, were organized for visitors. Additionally, mass sports and gaming activities took place on the open area, including: ordo, lyanga, uch tapan, armwrestling, mas-wrestling (tayak tartysh), kettlebell sport, as well as checkers and chess games. Participants and spectators were also able to join in.
The craft zone, organized under the concept of “Seven Regions of Kyrgyzstan,” aroused particular interest. In the yurts, masters presented traditional crafts: making ala kiyiz and shyrdak, weaving, wood and metal products. Visitors could observe the creation process, participate in master classes, and purchase national products.
In a separate yurt, a zone of national treats was organized, where guests were offered traditional Kyrgyz dishes and drinks.
Also, as part of the event, a tourist zone was set up where tour operators and representatives of tourist companies presented information on routes and travel opportunities across Kyrgyzstan’s regions. Special attention was paid to the development of domestic tourism and the promotion of the country’s tourist potential ahead of international events.
The festive event gathered city residents, tourists, youth, representatives of creative industries, and the tourism sector.
Following the sports competitions, winners and prize-winners were awarded diplomas, medals, and memorable prizes from the organizers.
The organizer of the event was the Department of Physical Culture and Sports, Tourism, and Youth Affairs of the Bishkek City Hall.
