In South Korea, ‘K-tourism’ — trips to Kyrgyzstan — is gaining popularity

About 20 thousand tourists from South Korea visit Kyrgyzstan annually. This was stated by the Ambassador of South Korea to Kyrgyzstan Kim Kwang-jae at a meeting with media representatives.

According to him, the so-called “K-tourism” (Kyrgyz tourism) has recently gained huge popularity in South Korea. This trend is largely due to YouTube videos that garner millions of views.

“Koreans have been captivated by the charm of Kyrgyzstan, they are learning more about it and are happy to come here. Popular Korean bloggers actively visit the country, and their videos about Kyrgyzstan arouse great interest among the audience,” the diplomat noted.

The ambassador also said that his compatriots most often choose already proven and favorite routes. The top most popular locations include Cholpon-Ata, Son-Kul Lake, Barskoon Gorge, Karakol and the Altyn-Arashan resort.

“Koreans love mountain tourism very much, so the nature of Kyrgyzstan suits them perfectly,” concluded Kim Kwang-jae.
