Authorities Sound the Alarm: Kyrgyzstan May Lose the Country’s Pearl

Deputy Ulan Primov raised the issue of the need to take measures to protect the country’s pearl — Lake Issyk-Kul — at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh (parliament of Kyrgyzstan). As Caliber.Az reports citing Kyrgyz media, according to him, the lake is shallowing more and more each year. ‘According to media information, if previously 80 rivers flowed into the lake, now their number is about 35. This is an alarming trend. It is necessary to urgently take measures to protect and preserve Lake Issyk-Kul and create a separate department. If we do not act now, in the future Kyrgyzstan will face an ecological catastrophe,’ added Ulan Primov.
