On June 11, 2025, the International Nomadic Plein Air ‘Sunny Palette of the East’ will start in the Kyrgyz Republic. This year, the creative journey of artists begins in one of the oldest cities in the country – Osh.
The project, which has been held since 2011, where talented young teachers and students of art universities from CIS countries gather, becomes not only a meeting place for creative youth but also provides impulses for subsequent ideas and initiatives. Over the years, participants of the project and universities from individual countries have donated the best series of graphic sheets and paintings by teachers and graduates to the golden fund of the Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts named after G. Aitiev and the regional local history museum of Issyk-Kul region, thereby enriching the state funds with contemporary works.
The International Nomadic Plein Air contributes to: uniting young artists and their mentors from several countries for joint outdoor practice, creative communication and discussion of professional issues, as well as rapprochement and interaction of its participants. The commonality of recent historical past, unity of basic principles of art education, connection with realistic traditions of plein air work and diversity of modern creative practices provide sufficient grounds for the successful implementation of the project. First of all, this will be facilitated by the unique originality of the mountain landscapes of Kyrgyzstan, the traditional hospitality of the people, and the content of the cultural and educational program.
Within the framework of the creative laboratory, master classes, presentations of educational institutions and the creativity of each participant, outdoor work are traditionally held, where there is an excellent opportunity to familiarize oneself with the area, culture and traditions of the Kyrgyz people. A traditional creative action ‘There are no bad children’ will be organized with the participation of pupils from the ‘Booruker’ orphanage.
The first day of the plein air is dedicated to ascending the sacred mountain Sulayman-Too and visiting the historical and cultural museum complex. The central theme of the plein air work is ‘The Legend of Sulayman-Too’, which will inspire young painters to create new artistic canvases.
During the week, participants will go on field plein airs to picturesque corners of the Osh region: the Kara-Darya gorge, the ‘Chil-Ustun’ karst caves, as well as the region’s natural reserve zones. In addition to the creative part, the program includes cultural events, meetings with local artists and charitable actions. Special attention is paid to professional exchange of experience and intercultural dialogue.
The artists will visit the exhibition hall of the Osh Union of Artists of Kyrgyzstan, where meetings and master classes with leading masters from the region will also take place.
The plein air will last until June 18, 2025, and will end with the solemn opening of the ‘Palette of Osh’ exhibition. The best works will be donated to the fund of the Osh Historical and Art Museum named after T. Sadikov.
The event is organized by the Public Fund ‘Ar arabа’ with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation (IFHS).
