Director of the State Agency for Tourism Development Eduard Kubatov held a bilateral meeting with UN Tourism Secretary-General Sheikh Nasser Al-Nawais as part of the 72nd session of the UN Tourism European Commission held in St. Julian’s. The parties discussed prospects for cooperation in tourism development, including improving tourism statistics, introducing digital methodologies for tracking tourist flows, and developing interdepartmental data exchange. The Kyrgyz side also expressed interest in expert support on updating national tourism legislation, developing a marketing strategy, implementing digital solutions, and increasing the investment attractiveness of the industry. Particular attention was paid to human capital development. In particular, the initiative to create a Kyrgyz academy of mountain guides with the involvement of international experience from UN Tourism was discussed. In addition, the parties considered the possibility of holding an international forum on the development of women’s entrepreneurship in tourism in 2026-2027 with the participation of international experts. During the meeting, Eduard Kubatov invited the UN Tourism Secretary-General to participate in the opening of the VI World Nomad Games and visit Kyrgyzstan on an official visit in the fall of this year. Following the meeting, Sheikh Nasser Al-Nawais expressed the organization’s readiness to support the initiatives of the Kyrgyz Republic and present proposals for the practical implementation of the planned areas of cooperation.
