Bishkek: a compact market with unexpectedly expensive 5-star hotels
Bishkek lags behind Almaty and Astana in the scale of the hotel market, but in prices for the premium segment, it looks very competitive — and even aggressive.
According to Trip.com data, the average bill for the capital of Kyrgyzstan looks like this:
3 stars — about $58-$61 per night;
4 stars — about $103;
5 stars — about $266-$268 per night.
Trip.com’s separate page on 5-star hotels in Bishkek shows 7 luxury category properties, with an average price of about $268 on weekdays.
From the list, one can understand the structure of the premium market: Novotel Bishkek City Center, Sheraton Bishkek, Hyatt Regency, Jannat Regency and several other properties form the upper price corridor, where the room rate easily exceeds $150 per night and rises to $250-$300 on peak dates.
With a relatively modest market size, the city is among the leaders in the cost of five-star accommodation. This is one example of how a shortage of luxury automatically raises the price bar for the entire hotel segment in Central Asia.
Bishkek demonstrates the paradox of a compact market with very expensive luxury: just a few five-star hotels drive the average bill up to $260 and above, while 3-4 stars remain in the affordable range.
