Mountaineering is highlighted as one of the most actively growing directions in tourism in Kyrgyzstan. According to the Department of Tourism of the republic, ascents and related services have already become part of the domestic tourist market, although there are no uniform rules for operating in this segment yet.
Taking into account the development of the industry, the inclusion of mountaineering in the new edition of the ‘On Tourism’ law is being considered. The department is also studying the possibility of mandatory insurance for citizens participating in extreme routes, since this involves trips associated with increased risks.
Today, residents and foreign guests wishing to take mountaineering routes use the services of private companies. Guides and instructors representing both local teams and foreign groups operate in the market. They organize ascents, preparation, and training programs. The department explained that due to the lack of uniform requirements, the activities of operators and instructors are not fully regulated.
The department emphasizes the importance of establishing rules and control in this area, as company errors harm the reputation of the entire tourism industry of the republic. Among the measures under consideration is mandatory licensing for small and medium-sized market participants.
It is expected that legislative changes will improve the quality of services provided and enhance the safety of tourists choosing mountain and extreme tourism directions.
