Glamorous Camping: Kyrgyzstan is Actively Developing the Promising Market

Glamping (from the English words glamour and camping) is an accommodation format that combines immersion in nature with luxury-level comfort. It allows guests to enjoy nature without giving up modern conveniences, combining the atmosphere of camping with elements of luxury. Essentially, this is a new direction in tourism that is becoming increasingly popular every year.

The consulting company in the field of commercial real estate Commonwealth Partnership Uzbekistan studied the glamping market in Central Asia. The conclusions are encouraging: the countries of the region have a great future in this direction. We have something to show, and experience in organizing such spaces has already been accumulated.

Global market

Why is glamping becoming more popular? It’s because it fits well with the modern trend of minimal human impact on nature. All structures are temporary and placed with minimal impact on the ecology and taking into account the preservation of the landscape. At the same time, comfort is maintained, with full sleeping places, internet, and other amenities. This type of recreation is attractive to experienced travelers who love nature, value comfort, and solitude.

Prefab houses and capsules allow year-round operation with minimal waste and fit harmoniously into the landscape, turning glamping from a seasonal niche into a stable segment of the hospitality industry. Glamping attracts environmentally conscious tourists thanks to eco-friendly design, use of renewable energy sources, and waste reduction. According to Booking.com (2024), 83% of travelers value sustainable recreation formats.

“The global tourism market shows that the main growth factors now are ecotourism and travel with unique experiences. Houses and modules account for 43-44% of revenue, with the main share (45% of the glamping market) being the 18-32 age group. In this type of tourism, the trend of direct booking prevails (about 55% of the total) and group accommodation format (37.7% of the market – groups of four people)”, – said representatives of Commonwealth Partnership Uzbekistan.

By the way, global hotel brands are already actively present in this market. For example, in partnership with Hyatt × Under Canvas, 13 luxury glamping resorts have been opened near US national parks, providing exclusive access for Hyatt program participants.

In Central Asia, there has been a post-pandemic expansion of glamping, providing a “first-mover” advantage. The region attracts tourists thanks to unique landscapes and growing demand for ecotourism, creating investment opportunities. At the same time, on a global scale, the potential of glamping in our region is still untapped.

Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan – leaders in Central Asia

The glamping market in Central Asia is heterogeneous. Kazakhstan offers locations near Almaty and Astana. This allows organizing weekend tours for domestic tourism and accommodating wealthy foreign guests. The variety of accommodation formats supports year-round operation.

“In Kyrgyzstan, glamping is actively developing in the Chui and Issyk-Kul regions. Yurts predominate in formats, but the “A-frame” format and dome houses are gaining popularity”, – said representatives of Commonwealth Partnership Uzbekistan.

Uzbekistan is represented on this market by scattered locations, limited variety of formats, and uneven quality. Yurts predominate, and “A-frame” is becoming an additional format.

In Tajikistan, offers today are concentrated around one operator (Paramount Journey), offering luxury expedition camps in remote areas.

But how is this market developing? Data shows that today Kazakhstan generates the highest projected annual income from glamping – about $5.16 million. Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan lags behind it only slightly with income of $4.44 million. The Uzbekistan market is estimated at $1.45 million.

“Today, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan dominate the Central Asian glamping market, accounting for about 84% of all facilities together. Uzbekistan represents a developing segment, while the Tajikistan market remains in its infancy. Yurts hold leading positions, making up nearly a third of the total offer, followed by domes and “A-frame” type houses. Safari tents and Pod houses form a strong secondary segment, while Bell tents and capsules remain niche formats”, – emphasized the company that conducted the market analysis.

What Kyrgyzstan can offer

Commonwealth Partnership Uzbekistan notes that Kyrgyzstan’s glamping sector is developing rapidly, relying on cultural immersion, ecotourism, and promotion through Instagram. Today, there are already more than 22 locations in the country with an average nightly rate of $115. Leading locations are Issyk-Kul, Bishkek / Chui region, and Chon-Kemin valley.

In Kyrgyzstan, tourists are offered traditional yurts, cozy cottages, “A-frame” houses, and capsules with air conditioning, private bathrooms, showers, Wi-Fi, and views of mountains or the lake. Many locations have hot springs, the opportunity to visit saunas, yoga and fitness classes, baths, spa treatments, and massages. There are many activity options for vacationers: from hiking and fishing to helicopter flights.

Yurts hold leading positions in the glamping market as of 2025, accounting for 38% of the total offer. “A-frame” houses (21%) and domes (17%) act as strong additional formats. Capsules (14%) represent a growing niche segment, while Pod houses (7%) and safari tents (3%) remain less common types of accommodation in our country.

Future trends

“Global trends show that glamping is on a strong growth trajectory. The global market will grow by about 10.3% (2025–2030), more than doubling its value. North America and Europe remain leaders in supply, while the Asia-Pacific region shows the highest growth rates. In the coming years, trends towards eco-tourism, immersion in nature, experiential tourism will continue, and promotion through social networks will stimulate demand”, – believe experts at Commonwealth Partnership Uzbekistan.

In Kyrgyzstan, glamping will develop on Issyk-Kul, in Ala-Archa, on Son-Kul, and in the Tian Shan ranges.
