Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan Border to Become 24/7: Majilis Approves Changes

The Majilis of Kazakhstan, the lower house of parliament, has given its consent to amendments to the agreement regulating the operation of the ‘Kegen-Karkyra’ checkpoints on the border with Kyrgyzstan. The protocol, approved by deputies on January 21, 2025, is now sent for consideration to the Senate.

The key change is the transition of the ‘Kegen-Karkyra’ checkpoint to a 24/7 operating mode. It is expected that this decision will significantly activate trade exchange between the two countries, simplify cooperation in the tourism sector, and help substantially unload neighboring border points, facilitating freer movement of people and goods.
