Residents of Karakol Ask Authorities to Grant the City Special Tourist Status

Residents of Karakol are asking the authorities to grant the city a special tourist status. This was stated today at a session of the Jogorku Kenesh by deputy Rakhat Zhunusbaeva.

According to her, entrepreneurs, activists, and residents approached her with a letter.

“There are 2,000 signatures in total. It is known that Karakol has long been a multinational administrative center with a rich history and cultural traditions. Geographically, it is also located in a strategic place. According to official data, 150,000 tourists visit Karakol annually. At the same time, the location operates essentially year-round — in winter it’s skiing, in summer ecotourism, trekking, gastronomic tourism,” noted Rakhat Zhunusbaeva.

She added that with the increase in the number of tourists, the load on the city’s infrastructure is also growing.

“At the same time, the city’s budget remains small. Therefore, this city needs to establish a special legal regime and status, which will allow attracting investments to Karakol and further developing it,” noted Rakhat Zhunusbaeva.
