Russia and Central Asian countries remain key partners of Kyrgyzstan — Zhaparov

BISHKEK, Oct 9 — Sputnik. Sadyr Zhaparov today, as part of a working visit to Tajikistan, spoke at the second summit ‘Central Asia — Russia’ in Dushanbe, the president’s press service reports.

He emphasized that for Kyrgyzstan, Central Asian countries and Russia invariably remain key partners.

Speaking about the current international situation, Zhaparov noted that today’s meeting is important for a comprehensive discussion of regional issues. He stated that for Central Asian countries, Russia is a key trade-economic partner and holds one of the leading positions in terms of trade volume and attracted investments.

‘In all our countries, we observe economic growth dynamics, an increase in the level of population welfare, and an expansion of domestic market volumes. We see great opportunities in implementing large joint infrastructure projects with Russia,’ the president said.

He also noted that cooperation in transport and logistics will ensure an increase in the speed of goods movement and the accessibility of transport infrastructure for the development of the region’s economies.

‘Central Asian countries are becoming part of international transport corridors that open access to world markets. I consider it necessary to strengthen joint work on launching projects aimed at realizing the region’s transport potential and ensuring Russia’s transport connectivity with China, Iran, and other countries,’ the head of state noted.

In this regard, it is important to continue work on removing restrictions and barriers existing between countries that hinder the development of trade, cargo transportation, and most importantly — the free movement of working citizens.

In the context of cooperation in the energy sector, Zhaparov said that Kyrgyzstan’s energy sector is undergoing large-scale transformations aimed at increasing generation, digitalization, and eliminating electricity shortages. The country is actively continuing the phased implementation of projects for the construction of small and medium-sized hydroelectric power plants and renewable energy sources.

‘We are interested in obtaining advanced technologies and further mutually beneficial investment cooperation in the hydroelectric complex,’ Zhaparov emphasized.

Another important direction is cross-border tourism, which is gaining popularity and attracting tourists from all over the world. The head of state noted that in Kyrgyzstan, this sector is developing rapidly and is becoming an important factor in economic growth. A ski cluster is being formed, new and existing tourist facilities are being created and modernized, airports and roads are being built and updated, including the largest modern all-season ski resort in Central Asia ‘Ala-Too Resort’, meeting modern world standards.

Speaking about environmental protection, the president cited as an example successful bilateral and multilateral cooperation with Russia on the reclamation of territories affected by uranium mining operations in the country.

He also noted that a solid foundation is the cooperation of countries in the cultural and humanitarian sphere.

In conclusion of his speech, Zhaparov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan is aimed at developing friendly relations with allies and strategic partners and is committed to continuing active political dialogue in this format.
