The largest ski resort in Central Asia is being built in the Issyk-Kul mountains
In the Ak-Suu district of the Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan, a large-scale project for the ski complex “Ala-Too Resort” is being implemented, which is expected to accommodate up to two million tourists per year, reports Zakon.kz.
The first stage of construction covers the Jyrgalan, Boず-Uchuk, and Ak-Bulak areas, writes Sputnik Kyrgyzstan.
President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov previously stated that “Ala-Too Resort” will become an all-season international-level resort. Thanks to the combination of natural and artificial snow, the complex will operate for up to seven months a year.
According to the director of the state enterprise “Ala-Too Resort” Zharkynbek Maksutov, already in December of this year, it is planned to put into operation a ski base and six cable cars. He also spoke about cooperation with Russian partners in the implementation of the project.
> “We have an agreement with the all-season resort ‘Manjerok’ on Altai. Russian specialists help train ratrak technique drivers used for trail preparation. In October, we sent ten people for training, and in February we plan to send more. Such a project is being implemented in Kyrgyzstan for the first time, and we need the help of colleagues,” noted Maksutov.
The project plans to lay about 250 kilometers of ski trails, build an ethno-village, health complexes, and hotel infrastructure. Already now, “Ala-Too Resort” attracts tourists’ attention: an international freeride tournament with athletes from 20 countries was held on the complex’s territory.
According to the project management, the resort will be in demand among tourists from Russia, Europe, China, Kazakhstan, and other CIS countries.
It was previously reported that Kazakh rest houses in Kyrgyzstan will become hotels.
