Permits

Kyrgyzstan has borders with Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and China. From the Soviet times, because of the border security issues of the USSR, the most protected line was the Kyrgyz-Chinese one.

After the Independence, the borders between ex-USSR countries were delimitated, but because of inconsiderate division, till these days’ some part of the borderlines of the CIS countries under the discussion.

Today border crossing process regulated by the Decree of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic dated from April 2016. Where point out border zones, crossing rules, and border regime.

Most of the territories are famous with its beautiful and untouched nature, places abandoned by people, territories of national parks and special protected zones.  There are territories with glaciers, snow-capped peaks, meadows, and alpine lakes.

The cost of obtaining a border zone permit depends on the urgency of the application:

  • Standard processing – 70 USD
    The application must be submitted at least 10 calendar days before the planned travel date.

  • Expedited processing – 100 USD
    The application must be submitted 4 to 10 days before the planned travel date.

  • Urgent processing – 120 USD
    The application must be submitted 2 to 3 days before the planned travel date.
    ⚠️ Please note: depending on the season and workload, urgent applications may be denied.

The border zone permit is valid for up to 30 days.

How to Obtain the Permit

You need to submit your application by email and send us a scanned copy of your passport.
The payment for the border zone permit can be made via online payment or bank transfer.

Once we receive your documents and payment, we will prepare all necessary paperwork. Our staff will then process the permit on your behalf through the relevant state authorities.

When the permit is ready, we will notify you and send you a digital copy of the document. However, you will also need the original.

You can collect the original document from our office at 73 Baytik Baatyr Street.
Alternatively, we can arrange delivery to any region of Kyrgyzstan upon request, for an additional fee.

NOTE: The travelers want to get only permits and take individual tours to the areas independently should take all responsibility by themselves. Before getting the original of permits from our office we will kindly ask you to fill up the claim waiver form to “Kyrgyz Tourism LTD”.
