Exploring the Area
Sary-Chelek Lake is situated at Jalal-Abad Region (at 1,873 m asl), Western Part of Kyrgyzstan at the territory of Sary-Chelek Nature Reserve. Sary-Chelek (“Yellow Bucket” from Kyrgyz) is the main lake and one of the seven lakes in the area of Chatkal Mountain Ranges. Lake width from 350 m to 1500 m, the deepest point is 234 m. Where to Stay
Arkyt village is the nearest village to Sary-Chelek Nature Reserve. In a village possible to find plenty of different level guesthouses. In the Soviet period, there was Tourbaza with accommodation facilities and food cooking gear. A special place and permission are given for camping and cooking area.
Eating and Drinking
In guesthouses possible to order food or use the family kitchen. A special cooking area possible to cook by yourselves. Better to have your own cooking utensils and gas for cooking.
What to See and Do
Sary-Chelek Lake is available to reach from Talas Range by Horseback Riding. Variety of trekking and horseback riding possible to start from Lake or from the nearest villages as Kara-Suu.
How to Get Around.
To reach the area possibly from Bishkek by shared taxi from Western Busstation in Bishkek or from Osh Bazaar, it takes about 600 km about 8-10 hours of driving. To Arkyt village possible to come from Osh town and from the Tash-Komur area by shared-taxi.
