Birdwatching in Kyrgyzstan

More than 350 species of migratory rare wild birds fly to Kyrgyzstan annually. For example, in Issyk-Kul, you can find different types of rare birds, including flamingos. The bird can be seen in Kyrgyzstan during both seasonal migration and wintering.

Now in the country, there are more than 400 species of rare birds, of which 57 species are enrolled in the list of protection in the system of state protection of the animal world.

ITINERARY

Bishkek

Arrival in the airport Manas. Transfer for Bishkek. Accommodation in the hotel.

Bishkek – Ala-Archa – Chungkurchak

After early breakfast, transfer for Ala-Archa national park. Birding in the area. Lunch picnic in the wild. Afternoon you will be transferred for Chungkurchak gorge. Accommodation in the cozy and comfortable yurts surrounding by trees and with stunning nature views. The area is interesting also for birding in the early morning.

Dine and sleep in the ethnic style complex Chungkurchak.

Chungkurchak – Chong-Kemin

Spend early morning time in the place and after brunch travel for Chong-Kemin. Arrival in the valley and welcome in the local family guesthouse Kok-Archa for lunch. After lunch takes horses and ride up to the mountain hut Kok-Archa. It will take a 1,5 hours horseback riding to the altitude 2700m above sea level. Overnight in the hut with the basic condition

Chong-Kemin mountains 

Early morning at 6:00 am takes horses and ride up to Chong-Kemin Rocky Mountains Alps to catch the Himalayan Snowcock voices and take a chance to take pictures. Return to the hut for lunch. Afternoon descending downhill hiking to the guesthouse by single trail way through the fir forest with birding on the way. Dinner and accommodation in the guesthouse.

Chong-Kemin – AkBulung – Kochkor.

After early breakfast time to explore the Lake Issyk-Kul, Ak-Bulung island. The driving time from Chong-Kemin to Ak-Bulung takes 2 hours driving. Arrival in the area and we will shoot Anseriformes and waterfowl.

For lunch, we will visit the local family house. After a lunch meeting with the local falconer. He will demonstrate a national tradition eagle hunting show with his Golden Eagle and tell you the secret of training the Golden Eagles from our old generation heritages. Late afternoon transfer for Kochkor, accommodation in the guesthouse with dinner.

Kochkor – SongKul

Today travel for Song-Kul to the yurt camp Batai-Aral. Arrival for lunchtime. After lunch birding the area. Dine and sleep in the yurt camp.

Song-Kul – Naryn – Bogoshtu

After early breakfast transfer for Naryn via 32 serpentine passes. Birding on the way in the river Song-Kul. Arrival in Naryn and lunch at the restaurant. After lunch continues transferring to Bosogo gorge where you will stay in the next yurt camp which is located in the tiny gorge Bogoshty. Dine and sleep in the yurt.  

Bogoshtu – KelSuu

Today travel for Kel-Suu. Arrival in the place for late lunchtime. On the way, sightseeing stops in Bosogo and Aksai valley. It will be 4-5 hours driving among the dusty and bumpy road. Welcome to the next yurt camp Kel-Suu with dinner. Sleep in the yurt camp.

Kel-Suu

Today will be a long day. After an early breakfast at 7 a.m., we will cover a distance of 8 km off-road using the local four-wheel drive to Lake Kel-Suu where you will sail up the cliffs of a mountain lake to the middle where you need to climb to a small valley surrounded by high cliffs where eagles nest. We will spend time filming and return back to the yurt camp. Dine and sleep in the yurt camp.

Kel-Suu – Naryn

After late transfer for Naryn. On the way stop point in Bosogo for birding. Arrival in Naryn by late afternoon. Accommodation in the hotel.

Naryn – Bishkek

Transfer for Bishkek. Arrival in Bishkek for late lunchtime. Accommodation in the hotel.  Afternoon free time. Farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

Kyrgyzstan is a mountain country and some point you prefer to do walking and hiking. We recommend you train with sport or jogging 2-3 times a week in the run-up to your trip

The best hotels and guest houses will be at your disposal. Twin rooms (clean, comfortable). The yurt overnight experience will be also comfortable for stay. Some day will be camping in the wild.

During the trekking on the single trail to reach the high mountain slopes we provide you pack horses to carry the all heavy bags and your gears.

  • Take off your shoes, when entering home or yurt stay.
  • Smoking is prohibited at home.
  • Please share your ideas on food and accommodation preferences.
  • Ask people for photographing them.
  • Be friendly and try to get in contact.
  • Be careful during the evening and night time and aware of mass meetings.
  • Be careful with your documents, money and valuable items.
  • Be aware of pickpockets and strangers at bazaars and streets.
  • If someone asking for documents, wallets or cameras, saying that they are from the police, ask them to go police together.
  • Never give your belongings to strangers.
  • Wear good hiking shoes for outdoor activities.
  • Bring warm waterproof clothes even in summer.
  • Have your torch sunscreen and repellent.
  • Do not drink very cold water from unknown sources.
  • Drinking alcohol at high altitudes is unsafe.
  • If the food fat or not acceptable for you can taste a bit and say thanks.
  • Do not drink cold water after eating out, better hot tea or c It helps in high altitude digestions cases.
  • Wear warm clothes in the mountains, usually after eating out.
  • Bring your medicines and first aid kit.
  • If you feel unsafe or have issues to discuss, please share with your staff, host or tour manager.
  • Collect your litter. Pack up all non-biodegradable rubbish.
  • Please don’t drop cigarette butts or litter.
  • High altitude vegetation is very fragile. Save the environment.
  • Use toilets in nature wherever available. Where are none, stay at least 40-50 m from streams and water sources and bury all waste and paper.
  • Leaving footprints, take just your photographs.
