Overview

This 9-day singletrack MTB tour in Kyrgyzstan follows old shepherd paths rather than roads. You ride about 190 km on trails and dirt tracks: from the forests of Chong-Kemin to the Boom gorge, up to the alpine lake Kol-Ukok and down to Kochkor, from the Kalmak-Ashuu pass into the Song-Kol basin and around the lake, down the famous 32 switchbacks and on old mining roads above Issyk-Kul. A 4×4 carries luggage and shuttles the climbs, nights are in guesthouses and yurt camps, with an eagle hunter and a swim in the lake on the way. Private, June to September.

Highlights

  • Singletrack from the Kalmak-Ashuu pass (3,447 m) down into the Song-Kol basin
  • Ride up to the alpine lake Kol-Ukok and a long descent to Kochkor
  • Two days at Song-Kol, from the north to the south shore past nomad camps
  • The 32 switchbacks of the Moldo-Ashuu road on two wheels
  • Eagle hunting show, Skazka canyon and a swim in Issyk-Kul on the last riding day

FAQ

Mostly flowing shepherd singletrack and loose gravel descents — comparable to blue and some red trails in the Alps. There are no bike parks or built features; the challenge is altitude and natural terrain.

Yes, on request we arrange a hardtail or full-suspension MTB in Bishkek. Most riders prefer their own bike with their own setup.

Between about 12 and 65 km — shorter days at altitude, longer ones on the way down. The 4×4 shuttles big climbs, and you can always sit out a section in the car.

The price depends on the number of riders and the season. Send us your dates — you get an exact quote within 24 hours. A 10–30% deposit confirms the booking.

Less time: the 7-day MTB Kyrgyzstan tour from Song-Kol over the Tosor pass. A big expedition: the 13-day MTB expedition through the Tien Shan. All options: cycling tours.
