This 5-day group tour shows you the best of Kyrgyzstan in one week: a night in a yurt camp at Song-Kol Lake (3,016 m), a golden eagle hunting show on Issyk-Kul, the red rocks of Skazka and Jeti-Oguz, a hike to the Altyn-Arashan hot springs and Karakol’s Sunday animal market. Departures every Wednesday from Bishkek, May to September, from 2 travellers and in small groups of up to 12. Meeting point 8:00 on Wednesday at the Olive Hotel, Abay Street 21, Bishkek. The tour ends in Bishkek on Sunday at around 19:00. What to bring A warm jacket (nights at Song-Kol are cold even in summer), rain jacket, comfortable walking shoes, swimwear for the hot springs, sun hat and sunscreen, and cash in Kyrgyz som for lunches and café dinners. Altitude Song-Kol lies at 3,016 m and is reached in one day from Bishkek (about 800 m). Most travellers feel at most a mild headache: drink plenty and avoid alcohol on the first evening. If you have heart or lung conditions, please ask your doctor before booking. If someone feels unwell, we take them down to Kochkor (1,800 m) and they rejoin the group the next day; extra costs for evacuation are paid by the traveller.
There is no public transport to Song-Kol Lake. Independent travellers usually take a shared minibus to Kochkor and then hire a private car or jeep for the last stretch of mountain road – and need another car to continue to Issyk-Kul and Karakol. This weekly group trip covers the whole route for you: Bishkek – Song-Kol (about 280 km, day 1), Song-Kol – Bokonbaevo on Issyk-Kul (about 235 km, day 2, with the eagle hunting show), Bokonbaevo – Karakol along the south shore (about 200 km, day 3: Skazka Canyon, Barskoon and Jeti-Oguz) and back to Bishkek on day 5. Transport, an English-speaking guide, 4 nights and dinners in the yurt camps are included – from $500, every Wednesday from May to September.

Yes. Many travellers add a horse trek at Song-Kol or a hike near Karakol. Karakol is the best base for trekking: you can do the Ala-Kul trek (2–3 days) on your own – rent a tent and sleeping mat in town, or stay in the yurt camps along the route.
